Yoga class to help prevent and relieve shoulder pain

Welcome to 10 minute transformations. Our focus in this yoga class flow is on how to avoid shoulder injury in yoga postures and how to alleviate pain if you have it in your shoulders.

Yoga practice should not cause pain in the shoulder, neck or back of your body. If you are experiencing pain in those areas this yoga practice may help you.

Before we begin, grab a yoga strap, belt, or necktie. If you are experiencing pain from an injury, be sure to get an ok from your dr before doing any exercise program.

Have a seat on your yoga mat and grab the strap. create a loop with the strap so that it fits around the bend in your elbows as you bring them close to your body below your chest.

Next, hold on to the strap, one end in each hand to examine flexibility in the shoulder region. Yoga movements shouldn’t cause any pain in the shoulder, neck, or back.

After examining movement of the shoulders to determine range of motion we will break down the yoga push up with the use of a strap.

After practicing variations on the yoga pushup, we will do a few rounds of yoga sun salutations to examine the tension of the upper chest, arms, and shoulder muscles.

Choose the version of the yoga pushup that works for you. Choose the easy beginner, an intermediate or master level.

We will finish with a few more deep stretches.

Breastfeeding moms who carry littles all day will really appreciate the relief from the beginners yoga stretches.

If you have stiffness in your shoulders a restorative yoga practice might help.

Take each movement slowly and with care. This quickie yoga practice has been proven to help with sore tight muscles and stiffness.
