Welcome to 365 inspired yoga classes. Today is day 73. This beginner home yoga class will focus on anatomical posture and how yoga practice helps you improve your posture.
Begin standing to notice your natural resting posture. Do your shoulders round forward from working on a computer or driving a car? Difficulties in life can also make us round and slump forward.
Notice if your head is leaning forward of your shoulders. This forward movement of the head puts undo strain on the muscles of the neck.
Is Yoga Good for Posture?
When we practice yoga poses we align the joints of the body to reduce stress on the muscles of the human form. This concept is called the efficiency of movement.
Stand with your back against a wall and slide one hand between the wall and your lower back and the other had between the wall and the back of your neck. Notice the natural curvature of your spinal column.
This alignment may be awkward or uncomfortable at first, but over time it will help you to reduce back pain and you will stand taller.
Next we move to the workout segment of our yoga practice to strengthen the body.
Yoga Exercises for Good Posture
We examine full range of motion as we create an energizing yoga flow. Sun salutation A and B help build strength and flexibility.
This vinyasa series from Ashtanga will have you glowing from the inside out. Breathing with strong movement is a powerful fix to power up your yoga body.
Some people who practice yoga with me regularly find it helps with weight loss, which also helps with posture.
Practice daily for the best results overall. No, I recommend doing a regular morning yoga session and commit to it for 30 days or longer.
After flowing in sun salutations we move into a core segment. There are several ways with which to approach good exercises to tone abs for beginners. I offer intermediate yoga versions to feel the burn and really boost your energy.
After working hard it is important to stretch strong muscles. Take a few minutes to pause in gentle stretches to increase mobility in the legs, hamstrings and hips. Feel the calm and relief this course of total bodyflow workout offers.
Next move to your stomach to balance the abdominal workout with back strengthing for a minute.
We finish our class with balancing poses to realign the spine and observe the change in our posture from the correct guided healthy yoga workout.
I believe this is a great way to wake up your body, mind and spirit in the morning. It might be better than a cup of coffee.
