10Restorative Yoga for Beginners Overview
Restorative yoga for beginners
Restorative Yoga for Beginners | Yoga for beginners restorative poses
Welcome to 10-minute transformations. Today our quick yoga class will focus on restorative yoga poses.
Restorative yoga is a great antidote to stress. The poses in this video are particularly helpful for students who are sitting in a car during a long commute or stuck at a desk for hours.
When we are driving or sitting at a computer all day our back will tend to round forward. The yoga postures in this video are specifically helpful to counter stretch the body and open up the heart space.
Gather some props. This restorative yoga class can be done without yoga props. If you have no props, gather towels, pillows, and blankets. We won’t use blocks.
The purpose of restorative yoga practice is destressing and relaxation. We may invite in a gentle flow to loosen up before we get into the first restorative yoga pose.
Restorative Yoga Sequence for Beginners
We begin in tabletop with a blanket under the knees and hands. This basic sequence of stretches will release tightness in your spine for relief and self-awareness before we begin. Feel the full length of your spine as we move through cow and cat for a min.
Next, stack your blankets and place them beneath your legs and come to lying on our back with your legs on a bolster, pillows, or folded blankets.
We will time the poses and hold each for two minutes. The time you need best may be longer than two min so feel free to pause the video and stay for up to 10 minutes.
Restorative Yoga Poses for Beginners
Bring a yin or passive energy into the pose.
Next, move into a gentle twist with one blanket between your knees. Move as slowly as you can when you reach for the blanket.
Now, take the two blankets and stack them up to support your spine as we open the heart in our final restorative yoga pose from this class.
Try relaxing into the blankets as you stretch your arms out like the letter “T”. Anyone can find deep restoration if you find the chill live release within.
Incorporate yoga into your life as often as possible. Many a Dr. will recommend yoga classes for healing the body, calming the mind, and awakening to the connection we all have within us.
