Welcome to the 10 minute transformation yoga series. Just 10 minutes of your day, morning, noon or night to transform your life. Practice with the sunrise to start your day the yin yoga way.
10 Minute Yin Yoga stretch
Today’s yoga 10 minute yoga practice is yin yoga stretch.
Yin yoga is a slow stretch that releases deep stress in the physical body. We will do some slow flow movement in the class and then get into restorative stretch yoga postures.
There are three key principals of yin yoga. The first is to find your edge. Your edge is when you feel the stretch but can find relaxation the yin yoga pose.
The second is to hold the yin yoga pose for a minute or longer. Some yin yoga postures are held for up to 10 minutes. This is a full body experience yet you might feel each yin yoga pose in one area of your body more than another.
The third yin yoga philosophy is to find stillness in each relaxation posture. For beginners you might need to release from a yin yoga pose if you cannot find relaxation in the sequence.
We store energy in our body. In yin yoga we seek to give our selves a minute or more to stretch into the areas of the body where we often hold back. One part of the body to really stretch is the hip area.
10 Minute Yin Yoga Props
Add props to your 10 minute yin yoga stretch class to support your body. To open the hips and improve flexibility bring your feet together and butterfly your knees open. This yin yoga stretch can be held for 10, 15, 20, or 30 seconds or longer.
Next bring your knees up and separate your feet on your yoga mat. Relax your hips as you move your knees side to side.
Now move onto your hands and knees and release your back with a few cow and cat stretches before lowering to your tummy for releasing in a back bend full body stretch.
Sphinx yin yoga stretch is a small back bend that opens the front of the body and heart space. To feel the release in the front body and to find peace put a smile on your face. Place your elbows beneath your shoulders and separate your hands the same amount.
The releasing part from the back bend is to cooldown by laying your forehead on your hands as you move your feet from side to side.
Move onto your back for the final yin yoga stretch. Bring your knees into your tummy and hold here for a minute.
Next we will do a yin yoga stretch twist by letting both knees fall to the left. Be calm as you unwind into the practice. Try to stay blissful in your mind as we hold this yin yoga stretch for a minute.
Move slowly to the other side, pausing to hug your knees into your chest. AS you move slowly to the yin yoga stretch on the second side remember to be gentle. There should be no pain in your body. Hold the second side for a minute.
AS you unravel the twist notice how great you feel. If you have time lay on your back in a stretch relaxing and enjoying the benefits of your yin yoga stretch class.
This stretching class should bring increased range of motion and a reduction in stiffness to your body.
You might find relief from tension. Restore yourself in this way any time of day. I like it best in the evening, post my work day. These bedtime yin yoga 10 minute stretch rituals will transform your days and feel restorative.
